Description

Summary:

Shipping is one of the core activities within NIBC Corporate Banking and is a dynamic business unit in an international business context. NIBC has been active in maritime shipping for more than five decades. We offer asset financing and advisory services for both Dutch and international maritime and container-leasing companies, and for maritime investors. Our clients are primarily based in the maritime hubs of North-West Europe, as well as in Athens, New York and Singapore. Shipping of goods by sea is a dynamic industry, carrying around 90 percent of global trade and the Netherlands - given its location and infrastructure - plays a pivotal role in this international market.
To strengthen our team we are looking for an Analyst, who amongst other, will be responsible for the support in portfolio management for a number of existing clients and execution of new transactions.

Job Description:

Why would you want to work for NIBC’s Shipping team?

Our Shipping sector team of dedicated industry professionals offers expertise in sector trends and the impact of economic conditions. Our team - which is fully located in The Hague - helps clients to capture opportunities and address challenges from expanding global trade, population growth and the increase in the shipping of goods.

While shipping is a relatively clean means of transportation, the volume of cargo being moved globally has an impact. The energy transition and emission reduction are major global priorities, and we share our knowledge and expertise in seeking solutions to these challenges. NIBC is a frontrunner, for example, via the Green Deal within the Dutch maritime industry, and we take our role in the supply chain seriously. Furthermore, digitalization in the maritime industry is a major trend as companies attempt to renew the old ways of working. As a bank with entrepreneurial and an inventive spirit, NIBC is also in a strong position to be an experienced counterparty to assist companies with these changes. In addition to this, the shipping team also aims to become more than just a standard debt provider and financial advisor through building off-balance sheet platforms to bring investors and clients together and create other forms of financing.

What will you do?

As a starting specialist in debt solutions you will be an integral part of the team. Your primary role will be portfolio management and execution of transactions for new and existing clients (largely international). Our transactions are largely bilateral, and you will grow yourself into becoming the main point of contact for some of our clients (in close cooperation with the originators).

Main job activities and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for portfolio management (this is largely done with NIBC’s Artificial Intelligence / Fintech platform, Oaknorth) and for execution of transactions for new and existing clients

  • Performing market research and conducting company-, business- and financial-analyses

  • Coordination of internal procedures for new and existing transactions, including internal rating systems, Know Your Customer and payment processes

  • Actively contributing to sector, and other relevant portfolio analyses as well as strategic discussions in the team

  • As the shipping team works closely together with the Energy team, the Analyst will also be required to assist the Energy team from time-to-time

  • Work with NIBC’s product teams such as M&A, Mezzanine and Equity Partners, Tech and Investor Banking teams to provide further solutions for the shipping clients

Who are we looking for?

The Shipping team is a close and high performing team. To further strengthen our team, we are looking for a strong team player with excellent analytical, communication (both written and verbal) and commercial skills. We expect candidates to be able to combine hard skills and soft skills naturally and to have a good sense for interpersonal relationships (both internally and externally). Candidates should have a critical but open-minded mentality and ability to independently develop and defend an own opinion.

You will be given a lot of freedom and responsibility. We look for candidates that are able to gradually grow into a senior role, write (and discuss) independently a credit proposal, credit review or amendment, and support transaction processes.

Candidates preferably have:

  • Attitude to be a flexible, enthusiastic and committed team player

  • Good level of ambition

  • Good commercial and common sense

  • Master or Bachelor degree

  • Maximum two years of relevant working experience

  • Excellent financial, quantitative and analytical skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (fluent in English and Dutch)

Our purpose is to make a difference at decisive moments for our clients. The inventiveness of our solutions often determines our ability to do this. And inventive ideas arise from diverse teams. We are therefore looking for people with different profiles and who want to contribute to the openness and inclusiveness of our culture. To increase our professionalism we also focus on giving each other continuous feedback. A high performance culture can only be sustained with talented individuals who are always ready to take the next step to grow.
