Masterclass 1: The Business Model of a Trader

Speaker Profile: Reinette Sluijk
Reinette Sluijk is the co-founder and Programme Manager at the Erasmus Commodity & Trade Centre that is founded with support of 13 industry partners: Cargill, Vitol, Cefetra Group, STX, Interfood Group, Shell Trading Rotterdam, COUNT Energy Trading, VARO Energy, Eneco Energy Trade, ING, Trefoil, Rabobank, Garanti BBVA International. She teaches in the Introduction to Commodity Trading and Supply Networks elective given at the RSM. She is programme manager of the Executive Programme Leadership in commodity Trade and Supply Networks that is run 1,5 weeks in Netherlands, 1 week at the J.P. Morgan Centre for Commodities and Energy Management and 1 week at the Singapore Management University.

Masterclass 2: Trading Essentials (Online)

In this masterclass you will explore to the necessary analytical building blocks of a commodity trader and how these come together into a cohesive market view and trading strategy.  Content:

Speaker Profile: Joel Rubano
Joel is associated fellow at the Erasmus commodity & Trade Centre. He is an, USA based, energy commodity trader with twenty years of experience at merchant trading companies, deregulated utility subsidiaries, a hedge fund, and an international oil producer. He has been responsible for hedging the financial exposures of a multi-billion dollar asset portfolio and has speculatively traded oil, natural gas, coal, and electricity on an institutional scale.
In 2016, Joel published Trader Construction Kit, a practical guide to developing the skills and techniques employed by professional traders at financial institutions. Rubano is a Lecturer at the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities and Energy Management at the CU Denver Business School, where he developed and teaches the Masterclass in Commodity Trading & Hedging and the Commodity Trading graduate class. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Babson College, where he teaches Options & Futures.

Masterclass 3: Transportation Arbitrage (Case Study)

In this masterclass you will work on a case as if you are on a trading desk. You will have to make use of a transportation arbitrage opportunity, where you have to deliver, manage risk and optimize upside under changing market conditions.

Speaker Profile: Mat Halsall
Mat is associated fellow at the Erasmus Commodity & Trade Centre. He is a UK based agri commodity trader. He is currently the non-executive director and Global Business Strategist at Group Sopex, as well as being the program leader for Liverpool Business School Commodity Trading Hub.  He is a member of the ICE Futures Europe, Authorisation, Rules and Conduct (ARC) committee. Mat has an extensive background in commodities trading, having held significant roles at prominent firms such as BTG Pactual in the United States, as the Head of Sugar Trading, and COFCO International in Switzerland, where he was the Global Head of Corn Trading.

Masterclass 4: Product Arbitrage (Case Study)

In this masterclass you will work on a case as if you are on a trading desk. You will have to make use of a product arbitrage opportunity, where you have to deliver, manage risk and optimize upside under changing market conditions.

Speaker Profile: Gerrit Sprenger
Gerrit Sprenger is an alumni of the RSM elective Introduction to Commodity Trading. He is currently a distillates trader at VARO energy, where he has been a trading analyst for the environmental markets before. He has been a Junior Energy Trading analyst at Vattenfall.
