Arresting Trump? | Investment Competition | Week 21

03/04/2023

This week was a very bright week for both European and US markets. For US markets S&P, DJIA, and Nasdaq100 closed with respectively 1.44%, 1.26%, and 1.74%. Moreover, Nasdaq100 recorded its most robust quarter since 2020’s second quarter. On the other hand for the European markets, FTSE100 closed with 0.15%, Euronext 100 with 0.72% STOXX600 with 0.66%.

In recent weeks, a first in American history is unfolding. A former President of the United States is facing court accusations and is likely to be arrested.

The reason for the allegations against Trump is that he is accused of paying hush money to an adult film star with whom he allegedly had an illegitimate relationship during his 2018 election campaign. Despite the accusations, Trump denies accusations and considers the situation "political".

As the United States approaches the 2024 elections, Trump remains one of the strongest candidates. His supporters will be relieved to know that this situation does not affect his nomination. However, the implications of this event are likely to have a significant impact on American politics.

Moreover, the recent release of photos depicting Donald Trump's supposed arrest by the New York police has gone viral worldwide. Although these photos were created using artificial intelligence, many social media users believed them to be real. While those kinds of photos may not appear in the following days, if Trump goes to court, he will undoubtedly need to take a mugshot. And this is currently one of the most debated topics in US politics. The upcoming days promise to be politically charged, indeed.
